RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award)
Kirsten Robinson was the Lake Taupo Rotary RYLA Awardee and she recently addressed the club. She did so confidently, logically, and with the fluency of a skilled public speaker. Who’d have thought Kirsten was a bashful, inexperienced speaker before her RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Award week at Lake Karapiro’s Epworth Recreation Centre in late April 2021.
Kirsten described building a tower from paper and sellotape, leadership and character-building lectures from life coach Libby Gardiner, interviews with Waikato business leaders, team projects including building a raft (successfully) to cross the Waikato River, abseiling, more lectures from inspiring people, and a grand Gala Awards Dinner at the conclusion of the program.
42 young people from District 9930 took part (75% female, and 25% male) – aged between 19 and 26. All participants were sponsored by their employers and Rotary Clubs throughout the district. More info on RYLA here - https://www.ryla.co.nz/
